Ramblings
So as it were... the world exists in small microcosmic realities. Many folks view things directly to their perspective, but often forget the truths that lie around them every day. My experiences overseas have shown me not that the world there is not such a relentless/harsh place, but that our world is an illusion. People exist in their many facets in a rich "peaceful" society the same as people exist in war torn countries. The environment is different, but the truths of human nature are the same. I think that many people lack the perspective to realize that violence is a part of human nature, and whether you're an @$$hole suing someone in a frivolous lawsuit, or a terrorist firing an RPG, the perspective is the same, but the action is different based on limitations and societal restraint.

Strange
It's very surreal hearing the Muslim call to prayer over the noises of the base. At one point things were absolutely quite, and you could hear the sounds of the prayer echoing off the city miles away. A sharp contrast to many of the other sounds heard around here.

We are nothing
In the grand scheme of the world, there are very few of us that can say that we sway the course of society. (Whether through great art, music, politics, or force.)

Being a blacksmith, sometimes one must forge plows, and sometimes one must forge swords, but the food that comes from those crops.... Do they not go to the army that sieges the enemy castle?

We are but cogs in a machine. Think/Discuss :)

And so it goes
I will be embarking on a large undertaking in the coming days, and may be vacant for some time. I was requested to do an assignment overseas, and was given an offer I couldn't refuse. (Not mafia like, but it's more fun that way.)

Wish me luck, and perhaps I will be able to communicate some while over there, but no guarantees.

The Question of the day
This is going to sound arrogant as hell.....

Have any of you met someone you would truly call a genius? I don't mean can assemble shapes really fast kind of genius, but a person that truly transcended the normal mental existence of the common man in all arenas. Someone beyond the consciousness which is. I know no geniuses. The best I've seen is truly gifted in one area, and retarded in another.

Replacing Whole house filtration unit
So, I'm taking some time off next week, and one of my bosses asks what I'm going to be doing with my time off during one of our meetings. I casually said "some house work, and I'm going to be ripping out my whole house filter, and replacing it" Most of them looked totally shocked. Like "Oh my god, you're not going to have a professional come and do that for you...", "That work sounds hard and icky"

What happened to people fixing their own shit? I vowed this year I would never pay a plumber, electrician, or other person to handle things in my house. Why are people so intimidated by doing things themselves? It takes a little research, but we have a lot of tools we didn't have a decade ago. It costs 1/4 the amount, and you learn something in the process.... I remember my Dad doing everything from rebuilding engines to upholstery. (And if he didn't know how to do something he learned.) I've learned quite a bit in the past few years, but I'm certainly no expert. It's just a matter of will.

Garden Quest 2009!
So we have now created my raised bed garden. I planted snow peas and onions today. We setup the seed starting kit in front of the deck door with spinach, lettuce, green peppers, broccoli, and lima beans.

I have high hopes for my most recent experiment. Hopefully in coming days, I'll actually be able to successfully produce food!

Moral Quandry
I have ranted about several things recently concerning government programs, and socialist ideals etc, and here's my dilemma, charity.

When does a person deserve charity/aid/help?

Should the government enforce charity/aid/help?

I think of certain cases where aid is warranted. (Illness, Victims of Crime, Children without anyone to care for them, etc) How philosophically can we as a nation or society give aid to folks in these situations without infringing on our Freedoms?

I certainly believe in giving. I'm trying not to become a cold calculating machine. (It's hard sometimes when you work with them all day long.) But I cannot find a balance in my mind between charity vs removal of freedoms involved in government institutions.

Should charity be privatized? Should it be an individuals choice? How do we encourage people to help those in need? Is it in our best interest as a species?

Thoughts on houses.....
So a house is a place you live.

A mortgage is enslavement to that place.

More ranting for those of you who enjoy...Collapse )

Quote
My new favorite quote from the Outlaw Josey Wales

"I came here to die with you. Or live with you. Dying ain't so hard for men like you and me, it's living that's hard; when all you ever cared about has been butchered or raped. Governments don't live together, people live together. With governments you don't always get a fair word or a fair fight. Well I've come here to give you either one, or get either one from you. I came here like this so you'll know my word of death is true. And that my word of life is then true."

It ends
So we all become poorer overnight. It doesn't seem that way at first, but wait for it...

Redistribution of wealth sets a precedent. Are you worthy of the great American handout? If not, you are working for someone else. We already face the fact that over 1/4 of our money goes elsewhere. Are you confident enough in our government to trust that it will be used wisely? I think I can better decide where my money goes. Ambition will be killed. I already find our taxes oppressive. Our forefathers revolted over unjust taxation, but we the sheeple have no guts, and no clue. We'll see how bad it gets, and if anyone, anywhere will do anything about it. I think over the coming years the division between haves and have nots will be greater. Only the have nots will have the basic necessities of existence. (Health Care, Food, Shelter, and if we're lucky a steady supply of prozac), but no "Hope" to move beyond that.

Then we will all have a choice. Do we want to decide, or let others decide for us? Who do you want to be, or allow someone else to tell you who you are? I want to steer my own destiny. For the next few years we'll be slaves.... and if we're not careful so will our children.

I do not fear our new president.... I fear our new senate....

If our new messiah doesn't deliver, there will be great strife. (I hope for all of our sakes he does.) If he doesn't, a enthralled mass of starving people easily becomes an angry mob.

And remember that every handout you take brings you one step closer to not choosing your own destiny.
